About the book
Aria is a ten-year-old girl who lives in a children's home with Raini, her twelve-year-old brother, after their parents died in a car accident some years before. Aria wants one thing only: never to be parted from Raini, without whom she cannot so much as breathe.
Despite the constant efforts of the home's director and of Nada, their carer, no family has been found willing to adopt both children. Until the day Mrs Marta appears, wanting to adopt Raini alone. He likes the idea. His sister does not.
So begins the girl's campaign to prevent the two of them being separated. Raini asks the woman to take his sister along for the trial week as well, the week meant to show whether children and adopting family suit one another.
The children spend that week in the house of Mrs Marta and Mr Giljan. They are very wealthy, and apart from a child in their lives they lack nothing. What follows is a run of unforeseen adventures, tangles and mischief, and above all a great many lessons in living that begin right in Aria's heart, for she believes that love should lead a person, just as it is love that holds a family together and not the number of people in it.
And while Aria, sometimes on purpose and sometimes not, turns everyone's life upside down, the real reason Mrs Marta wants to adopt only Raini comes to light. Aria's arrival in the woman's life breaks down the defensive walls Marta has built around herself, letting her open her heart and understand that Raini is not her son but the little girl's brother. And once the heart is open, anything is possible.
Unconditional love for the members of a family, standing together, and sacrifice for the people you love are the heart of a happy and healthy home.
Aria's energy, her courage, her pride and her love for her brother make you take stock and be grateful for everything you have. And the most important thing in life, the thing that remains whatever road we take, is the message Aria carries through her whole story: love should lead a person.
